Bonkers Candy was rectangular-shaped candies released by Nabisco in the mid-1980s. Each candy had a tangy filling and came individually wrapped. Popular flavours included strawberry, orange, grape, watermelon, and chocolate, however, a few more existed.
Bonkers is probably best remembered for the memorable TV advertisements. One or more of the uptight characters would take a bite of Bonkers candy, then a giant fruit such as a strawberry would fall from above and knock them into hysterical laughter. It featured a tag-line of “Bonkers! Bonks You Out!”
After the TV advertisements stopped running, the popularity of Bonkers Candy soon began to wane. Before long the candy was pulled from shelves. However, in 2012, more than two-decades after Bonkers candy has been pulled, Leaf Brands acquired the trademark. They originally had plans to reintroduce the candy by 2015.
However, at the end of 2018 Leaf Brands were still testing their new Bonkers product. As of today, the product is still not on the market, you can, however, keep up to date with the latest news here. Hopefully, it won’t be too much longer before we are all able to try Bonkers once again.
