WWF Hasbro Figures

The early 1990’s was a huge transition period for WWF. As things changed inside the ring, the same can be said for a lot of things outside it. The simplistic LJN WWF figures that had been popular during the 1980’s gave way to a new Hasbro toy-line that offered larger than life characters and a taste of articulation for the very first time.

While these Hasbro figures may seem quite simple today, at the time nothing like it had existed. Between 1990 and 1994, 11 series of toys were released, as well as numerous rings, and special SummerSlam releases. All figures came packaged on a card, dominated by a photo of the wrestler with a WWF logo.

The first series of Hasbro WWF figures included many of the favourites from that era, including Hulk Hogan, Andre The Giant and Macho Man Randy Savage.

The second series of toys included more characters than the first series. However, they did also rerelease Hulk Hogan, Mancho Man Randy Savage, Million Dollar Man and the Ultimate Warrior in different clothing. Something Hasbro would do numerous times over the years.

The third series of toys was released in 1992. This included a 3rd Hulk Hogan and 3rd Ultimate Warrior, two of the most popular wrestlers around at the time. This series also included fan favourites such as The Legion of Doom and the Nasty Boys.

The fourth series of toys was also released in 1992, this however only featured four characters; Bret Hart, The Undertaker, The British Bulldog and Ricky Steamboat.

The fifth wave of toys released in 1993 featured a 4th Hulk Hogan and a 4th Macho Man figure. Also released were popular characters such as Skinner, Sid Justice and The Mountie.

Series six was the first wave of toys released in 1994, a year which would see series six to eleven released. This series inlcuded favourites such as Tatanka, Ric Flair and Papa Shango.

Series seven saw the first releases of characters such as Owen Hart, Razor Ramon and Nails. It also included 2nd releases of popular characters Shawn Michaels and Crush.

The eighth series of toys included Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart, Mr Perfect and The Undertaker for a second time. It also saw debuts for characters such as Lex Luger and Yokozuna.

Series nine included charcaters such as Doink the Clown, The Million Dollar Man for a thrid time and The Steiner Brothers.

The penultimate series of figures included tag teams such as The Bushwackers and The Headshrinkers. This series also included Giant Gonzales, who spent just nine months in the WWF during 1993.

The eleventh and final series of figures included a 3rd Crush figure and 2nd Yokozuna figure. Also included were Billy and Bart Gunn (The Smoking Gunns), and the 1-2-3 Kid.

Over the years Hasbro also released a number of different WWF rings. This inlcuded a standard blue ring, a blue ring with 8 live action sound effects and a yellow version with King of the Ring logo.
