Fruity Yummy Mummy cereal was released in 1988 and remained on shelves until 1992. It was the last of the General Mills monster-themed cereals, following Count Chocula and Franken Berry in 1971, Boo Berry in 1973 and Fruit Brute in 1974.
First released as ‘Yummy Mummy’, the name was soon elongated to ‘Fruity Yummy Mummy’. While General Mills never officially never declared Yummy Mummy to be part of its monster cereal collection, it is generally grouped with them.
Fruity Yummy Mummy
Fruity Yummy Mummy was a “fruit flavor frosted cereal with vanilla flavor marshmallows”. The yellow marshmallow pieces seemed to resemble the shape of a head. On some of the cereal boxes, they were referred to as “monster mallows”. The other cereal pieces were orange and red.
Unfortunately, Fruity Yummy Mummy had the shortest lifespan of any it’s monster associates. The cereal only lasting around four years before being discontinued.
In August 2013 General Mills re-released Fruity Yummy Mummy for the Halloween season, it hit shelves for the first time in 21 years with a packaging update.
