Fruit Brute is the fourth cereal released by General Mills as part of the ‘Monster Cereal Collection’. It first hit shelves in 1974, three years after Count Chocula and Franken Berry, and just a year after Boo Berry. It remained in production for eight years, until it was finally discontinued in 1982.
The cereal was described as a vitamin charged fruit flavor frosted cereal with marshmallow bits. It featured a werewolf as its mascot, who also happened to be named ‘Fruit Brute’.

While never the most popular of the Monster Cereals, it has managed to immortalise itself in pop culture history, making cameo appearances in Quentin Tarantino’s 1992 movie ‘Reservoir Dogs’ and his 1994 movie ‘Pulp Fiction’.
In August 2013, General Mills released all five Monster Cereals for the Halloween season, Fruit Brute making its first appearance on shelves for 31 years and Fruity Yummy Mummy making its first in 21 years.
