Way back in 1992, after almost a century as the king of American chocolate, Hershey’s launched a plan to take over the incredibly popular gummy market with their brand of Amazin’ Fruit Gummy Bears.
Hershey’s created a series of TV commercials that aired heavily during children’s TV shows from 1993 onward, promoting two different varieties of Amazin’ Fruit Gummy Bears.
The first variety was original fruit, which contained pineapple, strawberry, green apple, grape, orange, and cherry flavours. The second variety of Amazin’ Fruit Gummy Bears was a tropical mix.
Amazin’ Fruit Gummy Bears
While the bear shaped candies in the commercial might have looked almost life-like, when you ripped the package open you would find a far more traditional style gummy bear. While that may have been a little disappointing, all was forgiven the moment a juicy Amazin’ Fruit Gummy Bear hit your taste buds.
However, like all products, the great sales of Amazin’ Fruit Gummy Bears couldn’t last forever. Eventually Hershey’s would switch the gummy bear design to a fruit shaped design and call them Amazin’ Fruit Super Fruit. They even jumped on the Jurassic Park bandwagon and created Amazin’ Fruit Gummy Dinosaurs.
In 2003 Hershey’s sold numerous products to Farley & Sathers, including the Amazin’ Fruit brand. However, just five years later Amazin’ Fruit was discontinued and never seen on our shelves again to the dismay of many. So much so that Facebook groups and petitions have been set up demanding for their return.
